The Holiday Season is Here!

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. We hosted a large Thanksgiving for the Doyle family who came from all points in the U.S. to be together for a few days. It was a ball, especially having the little ones around.

We held our fall Norfolk City Council Retreat on Monday, November 28 at the Slover Library.  We received many updates on major projects throughout the city including:

  • St. Paul’s
  • Coastal Storm Risk Management Flood Mitigation project
  • Ocean View shoreline updates
  • Chrysler Hall and Scope Arena proposed updates
  • MacArthur Mall
  • Military Circle

We are awaiting final recommendations on several of these projects from various consultants in order to be able to plan, budget and determine a timeline for future progress.  Personally, I wish we would move faster on these projects but patience is not my strong suit.

Norfolk received $39.2M in funding from the U.S. Department of Maritime Administration. This funding will support updating and enhancing the waterfront infrastructure at Fairwinds Landing, home to the offshore wind industry here in the Mid-Atlantic.  This will have a tremendous impact in support of heavy lift operations, operations and maintenance activities and cable loading operations on the site. It is incredible to see a new industry develop and grow in our region.

Norfolk kicked off the holiday season with the annual Grand Illumination Parade. The night was beautiful and the crowds were huge!  Also, the Winterland at the Battleship Wisconsin kicked off dazzling us with over a million lights.

Have a wonderful holiday season and talk to you in 2024.

Cheers,
Courtney
