Harvest Season is Here

Good Afternoon!

I hope you enjoyed the incredible weather in October. I loved having my windows open.

Good news!  Cameras detecting vehicles speeding in school zones are soon to be deployed.  As part of our Vision Zero initiative, which is to have zero deaths with cars and pedestrians, Norfolk is taking advantage of legislation passed in the Virginia General Assembly to place speed cameras in school zones.  Ten school locations have been identified based on roadway classifications, historical knowledge and evaluation criteria.  The ten schools include:

  • Larchmont Elementary School*
  • Booker T. Washington High School*
  • Richard Bowling Elementary School*
  • Norview High School*
  • Ruffner Academy
  • Bayview Elementary School
  • Norview Middle School
  • Southside STEM Academy
  • Little Creek Elementary School
  • Granby High School

The four schools with * will have temporary portable cameras at the start of the process in Quarter 4 of 2023/ Quarter1 2024. The permanent cameras will be installed Quarter 2 2024 for all ten sites. There is a 30 day grace period once these get placed before a summons can be issued.  Warning notices are sent during this 30 day period.

November 7 is Election Day.  Please get out and vote if you have not voted early.  All Virginia House of Delegates and Senate seats (140) are up for election. Most districts have been changed due to redistricting so please be sure you know who is on the ballot in your area.  Here is a link to the Norfolk Elections office that has all the information you need to know..who is on the ballot, what constitutes your new district and more.

The Norfolk Grand Illumination Parade will take place on Saturday, November 18. This parade is such a great way to kick off the holiday season. Also, be sure to check out Winterfest on the Battleship Wisconsin and see a gazillion lights light up the sky.  Winterfest is November 10-January 1.  If you drive by the Wisconsin even now at night you see them testing out the lights.

As always, I welcome your thoughts and feedback on all things Norfolk.

Have a good Thanksgiving.

Cheers!

Courtney
