Welcome to Fall

Welcome to fall. I am hopeful that all fared well in the recent storm and the remnant Nor’easter.

Vice Mayor Martin Thomas and I hosted a meet and greet in late September at Guads at Wards Corner. The purpose was to introduce Vice Mayor Thomas as the representative for the neighborhoods of Monticello Village, Denby Park and Oakdale Farms. These neighborhoods were previously represented by me but as a result of boundary changes for our wards in Norfolk due to the 2020 census, these neighborhoods are now in Ward 1. While these neighborhoods may not technically be in Ward 2, I still fully represent them along with my colleagues on council.

Norfolk hosted an excellent meeting on September 21, 2022 at Larchmont Library sharing the plans to improve the shorelines in and around Richmond Crescent and Surrey Crescent.  Engineers from the city shared the recommended option including both living shorelines and riprap revetment that will help mitigate the considerable flooding that takes place in this area of the Larchmont neighborhood. We met with the neighbors several months ago and they provided invaluable input. We came back in September with a plan that I believe satisfied the neighborhood. Now, we just need to advocate for the money ($5.5M) in the budget years ahead.  For me, this project goes back four years ago when I first campaigned for Norfolk City Council. Residents shared with me the dire need and I have consistently advocated for this project based on safety, flooding etc…you name the reasons. I look forward to the FY24 budget including at least partial/initial funding for this project.

November 8 is election day!  I ask for your vote.  I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve the past four years. My priorities include education, flooding/sea-level rise, public safety and economic development. I have accomplished much in those areas in the past four years and will continue to do so in the future.

Please reach out to me if there is anything I can do for you!

Enjoy your weekend.

Cheers!
