November Update from Courtney
Where has the time gone? It feels like someone stole a few months from the calendar, and suddenly it’s November!
NEON District Revitalization
The NEON District on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk is undergoing a major transformation. The project includes replacing century-old underground infrastructure and redesigning the streetscape for a modern, vibrant look. Valued at over $5 million, the work is expected to finish in late 2027. The end result will be a more beautiful, connected corridor linking Granby Street across Brambleton Avenue.
Recently, Norfolk City Council authorized the Economic Development Authority to offer Neighborhood Corridor and Placemaking Grants to support businesses affected by the construction. A total of $235,000 will be available soon. I’ve spoken with several business owners in the area—this will be a challenging time for them, and we should all do our part to support and promote these local establishments during the project.
Brambleton Avenue Pedestrian Overpass Repairs
The pedestrian overpass connecting the Public Health Building and the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus has long needed repair. After raising this concern with residents from Harbor’s Edge during a tour a few years ago, I’m pleased to share that the city has completed the work, including fully restoring elevator service.
Winterfest at the Wisconsin
Are you planning to visit the Battleship Wisconsin for this year’s Winterfest? The dazzling holiday lights will stretch from the battleship to the Pagoda in the Freemason area and through Town Point Park. I drive past the Wisconsin every evening and look forward to seeing the lights again this season. Winterfest runs from November 14 through December 31 don’t miss it!
City Council Update
Norfolk City Council has three remaining meetings scheduled for 2025. I look forward to continued progress and activity as we close out the year.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I’ll be hosting a large gathering this year and have already started stocking up—wish me luck!
Cheers,
Courtney
