Exciting Spring Developments: New Flights, Airport Growth, and Why Your Vote Matters

Good afternoon,

Other than the pollen, how is your spring?  I love the longer days of light and warm weather.  I am enjoying getting on my bike more and riding around Norfolk to see the city.

Have you heard that Jet Blue is coming to Norfolk International Airport (ORF)?  Between April 30 – October 25, 2025 Jet Blue will have daily, non-stop service to Boston.  And, Breeze is adding two more destinations out of Norfolk flying non-stop to New Haven, CT and West Palm Beach, FL.  ORF hopes to attract international air service as well. I took a tour of the airport a few weeks ago and I was very impressed with the construction progress, renovations and plans for ongoing improvements to the airport that will total about $1B.

Your vote matters.  There is a Democratic Primary on June 17 where you can vote at your regular precinct or you can vote early at Norfolk City Hall starting Friday, May 2.  All registered voters, including Democrats, Republicans and Independents are able to vote in the Democratic Primary.  You don’t need to be a Democrat to vote in this primary.  There will not be a Republican Primary as there are no contested races within the Republican party.

There are three races on the ballot: Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney.  I am supporting Virginia State Senator Aaron Rouse for Lt. Governor. I am supporting Jay Jones for Attorney General. And, I am supporting John Butler, a Democrat, for Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney.  John is running against the incumbent Commonwealth’s Attorney who also is a Democrat. There is no Republican or Independent running for Commonwealth’s Attorney so whomever wins on June 17 in the Democratic Primary will win the November 5 general election as there will not be anyone else on the ballot. This is why it is so important for you to vote in the Democratic Primary for John Butler.  A strong, competent leader serving as our Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney is critical for the safety of our city and to protect law abiding citizens, to uphold the law, to represent victims, and to successfully try cases.
Next month I will share more about the FY26 budget as we vote on the budget May 13, 2025.

Cheers!

Courtney
