Get Ready to Spring Forward!

Good afternoon,

Spring arrives soon — March 19, 2024. Daylight savings is this weekend. It has been great to experience some warmer weather of late. We had a fun porch gathering with neighbors last Sunday afternoon. Grady enjoyed greeting everyone walking by the house.

The iconic Elizabeth River Trail continues to delight us. We are so fortunate to have this 10.5 mile trail to bike, walk, run, whatever you like, right in our neighborhoods. More improvements are in the making. Norfolk City Council voted to receive $404,625 in grant funding from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation Open Space Lands Preservation Trust Fund to build a new trailhead at Larchmont Library. The trailhead will include a kayak launch, natural play area for children, open space improvements around the library, and a better route from the parking lot to the trail head. I don’t know the exact timing but securing the grant funding was key.

Norfolk launched speed zone cameras in ten locations starting March 4. There will be a 60 day grace period where drivers will be issued warnings. Thereafter, a $100 fine will be issued to drivers who speed in the zones. The cameras will be active 30 minutes before school and 30 minutes after school dismisses. This is all about safety for our children. Below are the locations of the speed zone cameras.

  • Larchmont Elementary
  • Granby High School
  • Bayview Elementary
  • Little Creek Elementary
  • Norview High School
  • Norview Elementary School
  • Richard Bowling Elementary
  • Booker T. Washington High School
  • Ruffner Academy
  • Southside STEM Academy at Campostella
