The Future of Norfolk is Looking Brighter

Good Afternoon!

I hope this email finds you well.  I am excited to share recent good news about Norfolk.

Carnival Cruise Line announced they will bring the Carnival Magic to Norfolk in 2022.  Carnival Magic is a 4,000 passenger, 1,000 foot ship that will cruise to the Caribbean and Bermuda.  This will result in many tourists coming to Norfolk to board the cruise ship.  It will be wonderful to see the Peter G. Decker, Jr. Half Moone Cruise Center active again with cruise ships and tourists.

Norfolk will have more competition in the internet world.  MetroNet announced it will provide internet, voice and video services through a high speed fiber network for homes and businesses throughout Norfolk.  Construction starts this year and there is no cost to the city as MetroNet funds its’ own projects. I look forward to sharing more updates as they become available.

The Elizabeth River Trail (ERT) has been a lifeline during the pandemic for residents and visitors in Norfolk.  People have been able to enjoy the outdoors to bike, walk and run on this iconic 10.5 mile trail that parallels the Elizabeth River.  The ERT Foundation completed a $4.0 million capital campaign, which will enable them to build out many trailheads, and add amenities and artwork. Last Saturday, I had the fun pleasure of cutting the ribbon at the first officially completed trailhead at Plum Point Park where there is a kayak launch, maze, playground and an obstacle course.  The ERT supports our Healthy Norfolk Initiative by adding quality of life to our community and making Norfolk an even more vibrant and dynamic city.

Please get vaccinated. Anyone 16+ (16/17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian) is eligible to receive the vaccine. There are many vaccine clinics around the city and throughout Hampton Roads.  Supply is not an issue so sign up if haven’t already. Here is a link to sign up:  https://vaccinate.virginia.gov

Have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather. Stay safe!

Cheers,

Courtney
