Doyle For Norfolk Campaign Update-3-2-18

May 1, 2018 is election day, which is a mere two months away!  Walking door to door the past few weekends has been excellent. Norfolk residents have shared some very practical ideas and creative solutions for neighborhoods, flooding, and more.

The Elizabeth River Trail is cleaner this week thanks to the West Ghent neighbors and children who participated in the clean up day on Saturday. It was sunny and hot and people were in great spirits. We even had people participate who once lived in Norfolk and came back to help because they visit the Chelsea district for the restaurants and breweries.

I had a very good conversation on Monday evening with talented young professionals in Norfolk. I heard what attracted them to start their careers here and what they want to see in Norfolk moving forward that would keep them in Norfolk. Strong schools, affordable rents, affordable houses, safe neighborhoods, and enhanced resources and funding for police officers were among just a few of the comments shared with me.  I appreciated their openness and candor.  These young folks want to stay in Norfolk and love the city.

I attended the monthly Ghent Business Association meeting, which always has great energy and camaraderie among business owners, neighbors and churches.

I also met with small business owners who are in downtown Norfolk. It was a good discussion on how the city can work in tandem with them to make for an even more thriving downtown.

Have a great weekend and be mindful of the winds.
